Iqaluit going ahead with gravel source plans
Written by Administrator

The City of Iqaluit is going ahead with plans for a new gravel source. The city is developing what it calls the interim travel area gravel source located 1.3 km past the top of the upper base road. There's enough gravel there to last 10 to 12 years and 5 km further there's another source of gravel that contains enough to last decades. Right now the city's gravel source is the north 40 area where there are concerns about contamination. This week the city's consultants met with local contractors and the various regulators like the Nunavut Water Board. And a public meeting was held this week as well but nobody attended. The city's engineering manager Jeff Baker says they're assuming residents don't have big concerns about the project.
